How To Hack The Gym In The New Year!

annieagar

Wanting to improve your fitness or reach a new goal and have no idea where to start? Well you're in luck! In today's blog I am going to be giving you all the tips and tricks to starting the gym and hopefully get you feeling a lot more confident. Lets be real, we've all been a beginner in at least one thing in our lives and it can be daunting to start something we have no experience in. I was once in your shoes and had never been in the gym before, and I'll let you in on a secret...I still get scared to go into new gyms myself. So, if this sounds like something that might help you read on and share this blog for anyone who might benefit from it.

Here I am going to outline the 'MUST' haves for starting the gym:

  1. Get on a bomb ass outfit you feel confident in! (Whether this be a matching set or a baggy tee and joggers, there's not much a nice outfit can't solve).

  2. Don't be afraid to ask for help (Whether this be from members of staff or other gym members, we're not all as scary as we look...well some of us. And I'm sure you would much rather ask someone how to use the equipment properly rather than struggle or just abandon using it, we're not quitters round here).

  3. Don't neglect weights! (Try not to stick to just the treadmill, find a bit of space you feel comfortable, grab a pair of dumbbells and get that workout in! There's a lot you can do with just minimal equipment, If you need any ideas just look on my Fitness Instagram for ideas #Shameless plug hehe).

  4. Remember the essentials e.g. water bottle, towel/cloth, earphones/headphones! (I mean I feel as if these go without saying but it's a whole new rage when you forget them. Plus having your own earphones/headphones can help you feel a lot more comfortable when having a rest break and awkwardly looking around).

  5. WARM-UP! (This is key. You're body wont be used to being moved like it is in the gym so make sure you take time to get your body warmed up and ready for action! Also preventing injury at the same time so win win.)

  6. Experiment and see what you enjoy! (Don't be afraid to join in on some classes, after all how do you know you don't like something until you try it. Also, they might help with your form and getting used to proper technique).

  7. Consider getting yourself a personal trainer. (When starting something new we all want to learn the proper way, this is where people like me come in. Not only can personal trainers assist in proper technique but also help you set solid goals and create routine. There are many options when it comes to personal training e.g. 1-1 sessions, group sessions (with a friend), out of the gym sessions and also at home training. All of which I provide...another shameless plug hehe. So if you're looking for a bit more help get in touch to talk through your options, it can't hurt).

And there you have it...all my tips and tricks to starting the gym! Now you're ready to go off and spread your wings in the gym (Quite literally...don't neglect back day). I hope this helped and like I always say if you have any questions you can get in touch via my contact page on my website or my social media. I currently have spaces for 1-1 and group sessions.

Annie
